Senate Bill Approved in VA

The Virginia Senate has approved a bill that would require healthcare providers to cover costs associated with the treatment of autism.

The same bill was killed earlier in the month when one legislator supporting the bill was absent from voting.  However, this bill, sponsored by Sen. Janet Howell (D- Fairfax County), was approved on a 27-13 vote this week.

It is estimated that 10,000 Virginia families have a child with autism, and like all states many struggle to provide loved ones with the costly treatments.

Fifteen states have already passed similar legistlation.
