Upcoming Events!

We are so excited to announce the dates and times for lots of upcoming events for March and April. Listed below is a quick overview of these events.

Our next member meeting will be held this Wednesday, March 27th from 7:00-8:00 in SLC room 247. AutismUGA has been working directly with Athens Regional Pediatric Rehab. As a way of helping the Speech Pathologists, Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists. We have started to collect art and craft supplies like construction paper, markers, crayons, glue, ribbon, stickers,googly-eyes, ect. to be used for social skills group and at various therapy sessions. PLEASE BRING ANY ART/CRAFT SUPPLIES YOU ARE WILLING TO DONATE TO THE MEMBER MEETING ON WEDNESDAY!
We will be inviting the families we work with and encouraging our members to go to a UGA baseball game held on April 7th at 2:00 as a way to get to know each other. We love that being a smaller organization allows us to get to know our members and families on a personal level.
We will be holding a percentage night at Quiznos on Baxter Street Saturday, April 27th. Everyone come out, eat Quiznos and support Autism research.
We are excited to announce that AutismUGA’s AWARENESS WEEK will be April 22nd- 27th. On Sunday, April 21st we will be street painting behind the SLC. Tuesday, April 23rd we will be holding a Dart Tournament at Double Barrel in downtown Athens. Also, on Saturday, April 27th we will be having our annual AutismUGA Carnival at Barnet Shoals Elementary School. Please come out to these events and support Autism Awareness!

First Meeting of the Semester!

We are so excited to be holding our first meeting of the semester at 7:00 on February 13. The meeting will be held in SLC room 253. Please bring art supplies such as construction paper, markers, crayons, and other supplies if possible. We plan to donate these to Athens Regional. As usual, there will be pizza and drinks at the meeting! Hope to see you tonight!

Hey Everyone!

We hope you had a fabulous summer! We started an awesome program this summer and can’t wait to share it with you this fall! Check back in the next week or two for information about our first meeting of the semester (it will be in September).

First Meeting of the New Year!

We have officially begun the new year, and AutismUGA is ready to get going!

Our first general meeting of the year will be on Wednesday, February 1st at 7:30pm in room 137 of Tate! Come join us and learn about the exciting events we have planned for this semester, including our Dart Tournament, Walk for Autism, Light it Up Blue, and much more! There are going to be tons of ways for everyone to get involved, so we’d love to have you! There will even be free pizza and drinks!

Last GET REAL Saturday of 2011

Our last Get REAL Saturday at Barnett Shoals Elementary is this Saturday! It is the Christmas party, and it is always one of the highlights of the year for our kids! Santa will be making an appearance, and there will be crafts and such being made. If you want to volunteer, plan on being at the school between 9:30 and 9:45am. The event will last until about 12. This will give you plenty of time to get home to watch the game!

AutismUGA’s 3rd Annual Dart Tournament

When: November 29th (Tuesday); 8:00-10:00 PM

Where: Upstairs of Magnolias Bar, Downtown Athens

What: Two v. Two dart tournament! Each team consists of two players, with each player pre-paying $10 or paying $12 at the door to play in a bracketed tournament and a losers’ bracket.

Fabulous prizes await the victors, and even if you don’t win the top prizes, you’ll receive AutismUGA koozies and are eligible for door prizes!

Admission is free, so round up a bunch of friends to cheer on your team as the fall semester draws to a close! If you’d like to support autism awareness but don’t know how, this is a great opportunity!

Our Walk for Autism was a Great Success!

Thank you to all who came out for the walk!! We had a fantastic turn out of volunteers, and all of the families and children that attended had a great time! A special thank you to Barnett Shoals Elementary School for allowing us to use their facility, to UGA Music Therapy students and the UGA volleyball team for volunteering, and to all of the resources that came out to offer support to families- We couldn’t have done it without you!

Light It Up Blue

With April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day and the month of April, Autism Awareness Month, AutismUGA is joining the effort by getting the greeks involved. Banners will be be on the front of sorority and fraternity houses with their projection lights blue! Join us in lighting up Athens!
